We completely understand that making the decision to move into a residential home is daunting. It’s a huge change, but we are all here to support you through it. Every resident is admitted on a trial period of at least 4 weeks. We’ll check in with you throughout your trial period to see how you’re doing and if everyone is happy, we’ll start the process to make you a permanent resident.
While we do not have a dedicated respite room and cannot accommodate a traditional short stay respite booked in advance, we are - on occasion - able to offer temporary places at Hartland House on a ‘rehab’ basis.
We are very proud to be able to be a stepping stone for individuals who have suffered significant injury or received surgery and are not quite ready to go home and live independently, but are certainly not ready for a permanent place in residential care.
Our ‘rehab’ residents have enjoyed the extra support and safe environment that Hartland House provides while they recover from surgery, undergo physiotherapy or navigate medication changes.
PLEASE NOTE: We allocate ‘rehab’ rooms on an individual and case-by-case basis, whenever the need arises. We cannot book rooms in advance and we cannot guarantee availability for rehab rooms.
We are very proud of each and every room at Hartland House. Every bedroom is light and comfortable with a well equipped and tastefully decorated en-suite shower room and fall-preventing Nobi Lights. Take a look at our Gallery to see what you can expect to find if you choose to make Hartland House your home.
You can. Every bedroom is fully furnished as standard but there’s plenty of room to bring some special pieces, or precious items such as paintings, pictures and keepsakes. Every bedroom is equipped with:
If we have more than one room available when you are ready to start your trial period at Hartland House, we will always offer you a choice of rooms if we can.
We do. We accept private residents and funded residents. For more information on funding, please contact the admin team at: abbeyfield@hartlandhouse.co.uk
Our current fees are, a very competitive, £1332.94 per week, paid per calendar month. As a not-for-profit organisation, we set our fee rate based on the minimum cost to run the home. The monthly fees cover all aspects of your life at Hartland House, including:
We are dementia friendly, meaning that we often accept residents who have a dementia diagnosis. We sensitively assess every individual prior to admission to ensure that Hartland House is the right home for them. All residents begin on a 4-week trial period. This is to make sure that Hartland House can safely and appropriately meet a resident’s needs. We certainly can. Our catering team can tailor meals to suit your dietary needs and all staff are made aware of allergies, so you can relax in the knowledge that what you’re eating is not only delicious, but right for you.
Absolutely! We actively encourage our residents to continue any activities that they enjoy, and that includes having a walk around the gardens, or down into Milnthorpe itself.
Our activity programme regularly involves outings to garden centres, cafes and other exciting places; and you always have the freedom to go out with family and friends at any time.
We have a varied activity schedule with activity coordinators on site Monday to Friday. We occasionally run evening and weekend activities, especially on important dates. Our summer and Christmas parties are the highlight of the year, with residents, family and staff in attendance. From baking to yoga, quizzes, games, outings, gardening and even visits from alpacas and donkeys, we have something to please everyone!
If you prefer a quieter life, our activity team can support you with solo activities in the peace and quiet of your room. As a resident at Hartland House, you are free to choose what you do with your time and join in with any activity you fancy!
Of course! One of the nicest things about Hartland House is the relationships we build with residents and their families and friends. We welcome visitors or all ages, including furry ones with four legs! We don’t have specific visiting times - we think visitors are wonderful at any time - but we do try to operate ‘protected mealtimes’ so we ask visitors to visit either side of lunch and tea where possible.
Residents are more than welcome to go out for meals with family and we offer a bookable ‘private dining’ option, for residents to enjoy a quiet lunch in one of the lounges with family or friends. For more information, CLICK HERE
We don’t have double bedrooms but we can accept couples, each with a room of their own. If required, we always try to ensure that couples who come in together are given rooms as close to each other as possible.
We have three sets of stairs, a lift and a stairlift at Hartland House so you are free to use whichever you prefer depending on your level of mobility at the time.
Hartland House is not a 'secure unit' - residents are free to come and go as they please. The entrance doors are locked from the inside at all times, with visitors being asked to ring the doorbell to prevent unauthorised access.
Unfortunately, we don’t accept pets in residence at Hartland House. We do however, understand the important role pets and animals play in our lives and with many of the staff being pet lovers and owners themselves, we encourage visitors to bring well behaved pets whenever they like. Our activity programme regularly includes visits from a huge variety of animals, from pet therapy dogs to donkeys, horses, ferrets and even alpacas! Visit our GALLERY to see some of our previous activities.
